Arena and Indoor football, in any form, gives players the chance to live out their dreams and gives small and large market fans a pro team to root for. You have big leagues, small leagues, and then you have the AAL2. The largest and most well-run developmental indoor football league in the country, spanning from as far north as Michigan, to as far south as Alabama, and as far east as the Carolinas. Focusing on regional play, the AAL2 has created a proving ground for future professional level teams, and players alike.

Thirteen Teams, Three Divisions, and A Chance to Keep the Dream Alive

Keeping the dream alive and giving players chances to advance upward is even the stated goal from coaches all the way up to commissioner AJ Roque. That chance lends itself to players like Lynn Townsend II. Townsend has always had the dream of playing indoor football again, and really for the first time.

See, Lynn spent short stints with several teams, including a year as a walk-on at Kent State. Those short stints, including signing with the Marion (Ohio) Blue Racers in 2016 before the untimely demise of the franchise, make his 2026 signing even more special.

He signed with one of the newest teams in the AAL2, the Ohio Legends, which happened to play at the very same arena the Blue Racers did. Meaning that when he took the field for the second game of the Legends season, he finally gets the chance to finish what he started over ten years ago.

A Decade in the Making

We have been keeping up with Townsend since he signed with Ohio, even finding out that he has been fighting for this kind of opportunity for over ten years in the semi-pro ranks. essentially playing this season as a 34-year-old rookie.

You may be thinking, okay? So what did he do with this opportunity? Well, after catching up with him and taking a look at his stats, a lot! Lynn stated before the season that he wanted to put in the work and “contribute his ⅛”, and so far, he has.

Through his three games this season, he has racked up 6 rushing TDs and punched in 3 two-point conversions. If it isn't evident from that stat line, he has more than retooled his skill set for the indoor version of the game. His ability to read defenses and hit smaller than usual gaps has been the difference in multiple key spots.

Beyond just the on-field play or the  “any position on any play” attitude, Lynn Townsend II embodies what the league is all about, just having a chance to prove it. We look forward to seeing how his season, and the Legends' season, progress; you can't help but root for both!

Check back to the AAL2 Website as the season progresses, and we will be highlighting various players from every division of the AAL2.
